I recently discovered that there have been extreme efforts to archive the geocities sites that were lost when yahoo shut down the service. As a result, I’ve found the games I made as a teen and I thought were lost forever. I’ll provide as much information as I have/remember.
First, “Shooting Game.”
It’s a 3 player game I made for me and my sisters to play. One of them controls with the arrow keys, one of them controls with WASD and one controls with another set of keys I can’t work out (num pad, maybe? I don’t have one on this laptop)
up is move, left and right are turn and down is shoot, but you can only shoot once you’ve picked up ammo. press 1 2 or 3 to select a different level, the third level has ghost blocks which will randomly change the direction of bullets that hit them. I’m pretty sure the music is a Sonic MIDI. I was into those.
According to the Last Modified date, I made this game on November 2nd, 2003. I was 14.
Second: “Blob Volleyball”
According to my geocities page, “Not funny, just a regular volleyball game featuring some simple blobs…”
WASD and arrow keys control the blobs, 1 2 or 3 in the menu changed the number of points you need to win. I think this was, in its entirety, an attempt to rip of a flash game that was exactly the same thing. All the sound samples are my voice.
The Last Modified date is the same as the Shooting Game. So, 14.
Thirdly and finally: “Ziggy Needs A Pint”
This was my opus. I was so so proud of this. You are “Ziggy”, a character I made up when I thought it would be cool to have bright blue spiky hair (the sprite is an edit of Luigi from Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga). Your aim is to drink as many “pints” as you can, and as you drink more your walking becomes erratic and enemies start haunting you and dealing damage. The burp sound is mine, the toilet sound I got from the internet and the background music is a Sonic MIDI, again. Once you get to 25 movement is nearly impossible, it’s so ridiculous :D
This, despite the filename, is NOT ziggypintv1. The first time I made it the beer person was a GIF of a zombie from a Metal Slug game and the toilet was from Google Images.
Last Modified 23rd February 2004, so I was also 14. I had never got drunk, I was guessing. I thought these games were spread over a longer period, but apparently not!
